Dog Bites

I find it sad and ridiculous (and minutely amusing) that after more than two-hundred years or so of service, the United States Postal Service is still having to deal with one of its biggest problems: dog bites.

In response to National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which is going on May 21-27, the USPS issued a news release discussing the problem and offering suggestions to customers to help minimize the occurrences. It also offers tips on how to avoid being bitten, like "Don't run past a dog; If a dog threatens you, don't scream; Avoid eye contact;" as well as tips on how to be a responsible dog owner. If you own a dog, which, with an estimated sixty million dogs in the United States, many of us are, it wouldn't hurt to take a look at it.

The news release also tells us the top cities for dog bites suffered by mail carriers in the United States. The #1 city for dog bites? Houston! Like I said, sad and ridiculous.

Actually no. I posted it because I heard about it that day on the way to work. I didn't think about your "new addition".
